Creating a journal based on any of the following topics will help writers celebrate this season of beauty and adventure.

Starting a journal with a summer focus is a great way for writers to celebrate the season and keep track of their summer projects. The journal could be used for one specific theme or it could contain any combination of topics connected to summer activities. The following are just a few of many suggestions for creating a summer journal.

Trip or Travel Log

Writers can keep a record of their summer travels and adventures with a travel or trip journal. Some types of information that can be included in this journal include;

  • Date time and location of places visited
  • Details about a specific location or venue, such as historical info or seasonal availability
  • A personally developed rating system to help the writer make decisions about future visits.
  • Miscellaneous information such as admission costs, hours of operation and customer service issues.
  • Pictures or other keepsakes acquired during the trip.

Ideally the best way to capture the memories along the way is to spend some time each day jotting down brief notes to expand on later. Those who have more time to devote to journaling may prefer to go into more detail about underlying opinions, thoughts and feelings that surfaced as a result of the writers experience.

Landscaping Projects

Keeping track of ideas, plans and actual blueprints of landscaping projects is another great focus for a summer journal. The plans could include simple brainstorming of landscape designs for future projects or running progress reports of projects already underway. This type of journal could include a record of any of the following information.

  • Budget information and price comparisons for materials needed.
  • Pictures of other landscapes that have features the writer might want to incorporate into the project.
  • Progress notes.
  • Tips, tricks and other advice shared by friends and neighbors who have completed similar projects.
  • Running lists of local and Internet resources available for troubleshooting purposes
  • Contact information, addresses and business hours for stores that provide services and products that might be required during the project.

Summer Activities Journal

One type of journal that will be easily filled by the end of the season is a summer activity journal. This type of journal could include any activity enjoyed during the season whether it be at home, at a friends house or even at the work place. Here are some examples of summer activities that could be included.

  • Family night activities
  • Afternoon or day visits to a u pick garden
  • A backyard camp out or picnic at a local park
  • Rare time shared with a special friend
  • Time spent with friends or family working on a summer project.

Documenting summer events and projects through journals can be as simple or as detailed a process as a writer prefers . These journals can be used for keeping track of resources or as a tool for capturing deeper emotions, thought processes and ideas for later reflections. Writers will be left with a lasting record of special moments of the season that can be kept for years to come.
