Many people talk about writing their memoir. They mull over their ideas for years but somehow never find the time to put pen to paper. Maybe summer could change all that!

If you're waiting for the right time to start writing, you could be waiting a very long time. There will always be other demands on life: partners, family, friends and work. These all add up to put writing somewhere not quite at the top of the to-do list. Unless you make a decision and commitment to write then your memoir isn't going to happen.

But perhaps summer could be the inspiration you've been waiting for. Could a change in season really give you enough motivation to get writing? Here are some ideas that might help you on your way.

Writing About a Hobby or Interest

Summer is a great time to get outdoors and enjoy life. If you have an outdoors interest then you might want to consider writing about that. This type of writing is about sharing an experience, so it's important to get out there and try what you're writing about. Take a notepad with you and jot down how you feel. Enjoy the sunshine and let the thrill you get from your hobby inspire your writing.

Travel Writing

Summer often means summer holidays and another great topic to write about. Whether you're going somewhere off the beaten track or a more popular tourist attraction, there's plenty to inspire you. But don't just try and write a travel book, there are many of those on the market, try to write about your experiences in a different way. Maybe there was some special aspect of your holiday that would make it interesting to read about?

Summer Can Trigger Memories

Summertime can bring back memories of times past. Perhaps these are important enough to you to capture down on paper. What made those past summers so special? Maybe you could revisit a holiday destination and see what memories come flooding back.

Summer Sandals, Sun-screen and Floppy Hats

Summer can bring about changes in routine. We dress differently, we might wake-up at different times and do different things in the evening. These changes are a good motivation to start something new, whether it's going to the gym, walking the dog, or writing that book. Use the sunshine and channel this boost in your energy levels into your writing.

Whether it's a change in season or some other event that gives your routine a shake-up, it's a wonderful opportunity to do some of those things that you've been putting aside. Writing a book, whether memoir or fiction, is a big commitment and needs lots of motivation. It's a time consuming task that needs commitment over a long period. It's likely that if you start in summer you'll still need to keep going through those winter months. But sometimes all you need is a good kickstart to get going. And maybe, just maybe, this summer could be your kick-start!
